Rhinoplasty, more commonly referred to a nose job, is a precise surgical procedure designed to improve the appearance and/or functionality of the nose, bringing it into proportion with other facial features and correcting deformities that impair breathing, cause headaches, and lead to sinus problems. Whether your goal is to improve your nose’s ability to function or augment its appearance—or both—it is critical to select a skilled, talented surgeon such as Dr. Michael Godin, double Board Certified Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, for naturally-beautiful, balanced results.
Rhinoplasty is one of the most demanding plastic surgery procedures, affecting the most prominent feature of your face where even small-scale changes can have a drastic impact on your entire appearance. Successful rhinoplasty requires both extensive knowledge of the internal structures of the face, as well as the artistry to visualize and implement a beautiful result. Dr. Godin is one of the nation’s leading rhinoplasty experts, having recently written one of the go-to texts on the art of rhinoplasty for practicing surgeons and surgeons-in-training alike. If you are looking for a Rhinoplasty in Richmond, you have come to the right place! Dr. Godin is also known for his innovative Micro-Mini Lift® facelift procedure.
Planning Your Rhinoplasty
Designing a customized surgical plan for your rhinoplasty is one of, if not the, most important step in the rhinoplasty process, to ensure that the final results blend with the rest of your facial contours. Having realistic expectations is also important: rhinoplasty can correct or alter the appearance of your existing nose, but it cannot create a completely new nose. Dr. Godin will work closely with you throughout the entire process to understand your aesthetic goals and create a plan designed to achieve those goals!
During your consultation, Dr. Godin and his staff will take a series of photographs to help plan the procedure; Dr. Godin likes to compare this process to an architect creating a blueprint while designing a house. These photographs will also supplement the “before and after” record of the alterations to your nose and face. He will also show you photographs of other patients who have undergone rhinoplasty to help you understand your vision of the “ideal” nose, as well as visualize how rhinoplasty may impact your appearance.
The Rhinoplasty Procedure
For most patients, rhinoplasty can be performed as an outpatient procedure that does not require an overnight stay. After surgery, a white plastic splint is applied to the outside of the nose, while soft rubber splints with tubes to facilitate breathing may be placed inside the nose. These dressings will be removed about five days after the procedure. The nose will remain bruised for about a week and often remains visibly swollen for several days after that. Patients who are expecting to see their final results may be disappointed at this stage in the process because the nose appears larger than they were expecting. Although the nose will assume its final shape after three or four days, residual swelling will continue to subside for several weeks after the procedure, and may require up to a year to subside 100%.
